Mamey, also known as sapote, is native to Cuba and Central America, and is now cultivated in various Latin American countries for its fruit. The fruit has a creamy orange-pink pulp, with a taste that is sometimes described as a mix between sweet potato, cantaloupe, and peach. Mamey is an excellent source of vitamin B and C, as well as potassium and several newly-discovered carotenoids. It is often used to make milkshakes and ice cream.
